Concord, Kannapolis and Albemarle Major Transmission Waterline

Legislator: Rep. Craig Weber (D-3)
Cost: $1,000,000
Recipient: Cities of Concord, Kannapolis and Albemarle, North Carolina
P.O. Box 308
Concord, NC 28026
City: Concord, NC

Funding for this project will be used to construct approximately 84,000 feet of 30” water line running from Albemarle to Concord. Albemarle's water treatment plant has excess capacity, while Concord and Kannapolis are struggling to meet future water demands. In fact, these two cities' combined water demand will exceed 30 million gallons per day in the next 20 years. It is more regionally beneficial and cost effective to utilize existing potable water sources by connecting nearby public systems than developing new water sources. This water line will run through a sparsely populated area, which will minimize construction cost and inconvenience to the general public. The project will be a valuable use of taxpayer funds because it will support continuing growth in Concord and Kannapolis and promote growth in Albemarle, an area that has lost significant industry.
